April is National Poetry Month. Therefore, April’s posts will be supplemented with regularly featured USA Poets Laureate.
Let’s start now, shall we? It’s already April 3.
Billy Collins was Poet Laureate from 2001 to 2003. He read some of his work to our store managers’ conference when I worked for a big box bookseller, and I enjoyed his words and humor so much I took my husband to see Collins when he read at the Frauenthal Theater in Muskegon MI. My husband didn’t really believe he would enjoy it. He enjoyed it. (Of course he did. I’m always right about that stuff.) During tenure as PL, Collins created the ‘Poetry 180’ project, which distributed a poem to all high schools for every day of the school year. Later, those poems were published in two anthologies.
